What is FileZilla??
FileZilla is one of the most popular FTP clients.
The main purpose of Filezilla is to make it easy for you to upload and download files from your web hosting server.
You can also edit the files and save changes without the need of manually downloading and uploading.
FileZilla supports Mac, Windows and Linux.
How do I download FileZilla??
You can download FileZilla using the link below:
Next, open FileZilla:
In the FileZilla menu go to File > Site Manager
. Then go through these 6 steps:
- Click New Site.
- Add a custom name for this site.
- Add the hostname like: ec2-00-00-00-204.eu-
central-1.compute.amazonaws.com or the IP address like: 00.00.00.204
- For protocol, select SFTP (SSH file transer protocol)
- Set the Logon Type to “Normal” and insert your FTP username which would be ec2-user and leave the password space blank.
- Press the “OK” button.
Now, as we are using SFTP, we will need to add out keypair. Here’s how:
1: Go to “edit” and click on “settings”.
2: Click on SFTP and select add “keyfile”.
3: Select the keypair for the machine you will be accessing. Remember, the key will need to be converted to a .ppk file as .pem files are not supported by FileZilla.
4: Click “ok”.
Now to get access to the machine from FileZilla:
1: Go to Site Manager again and click on the site you created earlier and click “Connect”.
You should be presented with the following page:
As you can see from the above image, on the left hand side is the folders from your desktop and on the right hand side is the virtual machine we have connected to.
Now we can easily transfer files in between the two machines. Isn’t this awesome, its really easy to use.
